Pumpkin Boards

Today I was cleaning the back porch and deck-- everything was so dirty. DH is not a clean-up kinda of guy, but he is a great cook---so I do the cleaning. I wanted to do some fall decorating after the cleaning business was finished. Somewhere on the net I found an article about painting pumpkin boards---which I wanted to try. I do not remember where the article is located so credit goes to cyber space. The only supplies needed are: Pieces of wood in any shape, Sanding paper,Craft paint in orange, black, and white,Paintbrush, Ribbon, Raffia, Nail.

Sand the ends of the board and wipe clean. Apply orange paint, let dry and apply again, let the second layer dry. Paint the face on the board. Nail the nail in top of the board and tie ribbons to the nail. Now you have a pumpkin board that is great to use outside.

Fall Recipe and Table setting

Heidi Ann from Foxgloves, Fabric and Folly is hosting a fall recipe and table setting day for Saturday. When the weather cools down I like to cook foods like soup, gumbo and chili. One of my favorite soups to prepare is "Pumpkin Soup." I serve salad and crackers(sometimes yeast rolls) with the soup.

Pumpkin Soup

• 1 tablespoon butter
• 1 cup chopped onion
• 2 teaspoons minced garlic
• 2 pounds ham, cut into 1-inch cubes
• 3 (29 ounce) cans pumpkin puree
• 1 (32 ounce) carton chicken broth
• 2/3 cup cream
• 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
• 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
• 1/2 teaspoon fresh rosemary

1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the onion and garlic in the butter until soft.
2. Combine the onion, garlic, ham, pumpkin puree, chicken broth, cream, thyme, pepper, and rosemary in a slow cooker set to Low; cook 8 to 10 hours. Serve and enjoy

My fall tablescape is a re-post.

Headliner News: New Grandson

Our new gift-----Tyler Mason, born September 22, 2008, 11:58 am, 7.7 lbs, 19 1/2 inches. It was a emergency situation--Tyler had problems coming into this world, so the doctor performed a C/S., both are doing great. We are so in love with the new addition to the family. I have been busy with grandmother duties and loving it. I'll be back on line soon.

Mr Lincoln

Two things I love most are roses and tea, today I was walking in the garden to find some fresh flowers for the house, again. My roses are fading, but the one that still has blooms is Mister Lincoln and is my favorite. Mister Lincoln is the best blooming rose available. Blossoms become an even richer red as they bathe in the sun, exuding a luscious, fruity fragrance. Excellent cut for bouquets.

Another favorite is "New Dawn" a blush color running rose that is very easy to root from cuttings, one year I just pulled a cain to the ground and covered with a small amount of soil and placed a brick on top and the next spring I had a new rose plant. New Dawn grows fast and will cover an arbor quickly, when it blooms it is a mass display, but it does not repeat bloom.

Today I wanted fresh flowers for the foyer, so I check the Mums--no open blooms yet, the only blooms open were ginger blooms so I cut the ginger and the fragrance is so pleasant. I just love fresh flowers in the home. I'm posting some photos in hope that you can smell the fragrance (or maybe pretend). So enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, almost forgot, use ginger in your tea it is so---- GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tabletop Tuesday

The dishes are a mix,the bowl and salad plate are from "livingquarters", which I believe have been discontinued. The fork and knife I purchased from a flea market and I believe they are old. The green charger is one that I use for Christmas. Nothing very special, just a mix. (I'M LEFT HANDED SO I ALWAYS PLACE THE WATER ON MY LEFT, NOT CORRECT, BUT IT IS A RIGHT HANDED WORLD, SO-- SOMETIMES I JUST DO THINGS MY WAY AND NOT THE CORRECT) Almost forgot about my special lady bug on the right that was a gift from a friend. (something UN-expected)

SideBoard Decorations

Continuing with fall decorating--added fall leaves and candles in a basket to my sideboard, lots of stuff, I tend to overdo when it comes to decorating, repeat I like lots of stuff. I think this is all I'm doing. I delivered the door hanging to my parents in the nursing home and my sister requested a door hanging, which I must do. (she spends lots of time checking on my parents). My dad celebrated his birthday this month (9/9) and he is 89 years young. He is a sweet southern gentlemen. We are lucky to still have our parents, they share the same room in the nursing home, my mother has lost the ability to speak due to dementia, but she can still call my dad by name. Her love for dad has never missed a beat.

It is a beautiful day here in Mississippi, wind slightly blowing and the sun is shining. I thank god for the day and the many blessing that have come my way. I have rambled today, sorry if I bored you.

Door Decor

Last nite I finished the new door hanging for my parents, they are in a nursing home. The container I purchased from GW, only a few dollars, flowers came from HH on clearance 90% off, ribbon and nest I had from a sale at Michael's. My door is a little dirty, my cleaning has not reach the door yet. I'll get there soon.

Walked around my garden yesterday, the roses are still blooming, ginger plants have blooms and smell great, Mums are loaded with buds, but not open yet.

Fall Door Decorations

Changed my door decoration, it is one I made last year it looks a little faded, but it will have to do, no time to make a fresh one. I had to make a door hanging for my parents door,(in the nursing home) will try to make some picture of their door decor tomorrow and post.

A nursing agency contacted me to work with one of the shelters in Texas, after Ike hits land---they will need all the medical help they can round up.

My assignment in Killeen, Texas is completed and I'm home again. My house looks as if "IKE" with 115 miles an hour winds just left. Sweet honey did very little to keep things clean, such as dusting, folding clothes, mopping and general housework. Oh well, it will take about two weeks to clean, with breaks.

I wanted to do some fall decorating so I pulled a few things out, I arranged my pumpkin collection on the breakfast table, included in this posting are some pictures for your viewing.
